Sussex Eco Awards 2008

Brighton's Project founder, Richard Mehmed took the prestigious title of Green Champion at the 2008 Sussex Eco Awards, which "serve to recognise the time, effort and energy people have put into work that can be thankless, and often goes against the tide of convention."

Overall Winner of the National Social Enterprise Award 2002

The Brighton & Hove Wood Recycling Project was the Overall Winner of the National Social Enterprise Award 2002. Sponsored by the DTI and Nat West/Royal Bank of Scotland, the award celebrates the very best in social enterprise in the whole of the UK.
There were more than 70 entries and many of the other finalists were far more established and very much larger than us. The judges recognised the great entrepreneurial spirit demonstrated in setting up and developing our project, and acknowledged our role as a model for similar groups nationwide.

National Recycling Awards 1999

In October 1999 we were runners-up in the Waste Minimisation category of the National Recycling Awards, an environmental award for the pioneering work we are doing. These awards, sponsored by the waste industry and supported by the DTI, recognise innovation in recycling.
There were more than 170 entries - from local authorities and big companies to the major players in waste management. We were the only community type group to reach the finals and achieved "Highly Commended" status
