Spring into action with scaffold boards and planters for your garden

April 10, 2014

With all the rain this winter we were just waiting for a customer called Noah to come and buy lots of wood! The sun is finally making an appearance, the buds on the trees are swelling and the sodden ground is starting to dry out so it must be time to start to tackle the garden and outdoors. Our carpentry team are busy beavering away making planters from reclaimed scaffold in all shapes and sizes ready to take away from the store in Brighton, or we can make them to order to fit your space perfectly.

While we're talking about reclaimed scaffold, it gets harder and harder to find suitable quality boards to make furniture and planters, even boards good enough for the garden seem to get rarer and rarer. One of the big problems is that when we get a bundle of boards, maybe 30% are good enough for furniture, 55% just about good enough for the garden and then the remainder  are so rotten or split that they are not really good enough for anything. If you're going to the trouble of putting in raised beds, you at least want a good few years out of the boards that you're using before you have to replace them. For this reason, we now aim to have new scaffold boards in stock at all times. At £20 each for a full 3.9m board, they work out only a little dearer than used boards and you should get a lot more life out of them.
